Bardibas, April 19
Coordinator of Naya Shakti Nepal, Baburam Bhattarai, has described the promulgation of Nepal’s constitution through Constituent Assembly as an historic achievement.
Bhattarai said failure to internalise this historic feat is akin to devaluation of the democratic movement itself.
The former prime minister, speaking at an interaction here on Tuesday, said the country has entered into the phase of economic development and prosperity, after promulgation of a constitution through a popularly-elected Constituent Assembly. Bhattarai said he felt the necessity of a new force that would strive for economic development and prosperity in a changed context, and formed Naya Shakti.
For political parties making preparations for a new wave of movement in Madhesh, Bhattarai had a suggestion. He asked the parties to lead the movement for economic prosperity in Madhesh, which has suffered economically, socially and politically due to the blockade and protests.
He said: On one hand, lawmakers are saying that they do not recognise the Charter. On the other, they are receiving salary and allowances from the Parliament.
Bhattarai asked Madheshi parties to be mindful that people are aware of plots they are hatching for ascension to power.
It is possible to secure political rights and address issues related to provincial demarcation through talks, Bhattarai said, asking both the government and political parties to show flexibility.
