Kathmandu, November 28
Naya Shakti Nepal and Federal Socialist Forum have teamed up for the cause of Constitution amendment.
In a joint press release on Monday, Naya Shakti Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai and Forum President Upendra Yadav have put forward issues that an amendment should incorporate.
They said an amendment should incorporate issues like concept of national identity, federalism with rights, a Parliament formed on the basis of fully proportionate representation, directly-elected executive president, local bodies and special structures within provincial jurisdiction.
The two forces said any amendment that does not incorporate national issues will not solve Nepal’s problems, adding that such an amendment will not increase the Constitution’s acceptability and will make its implementation impossible.
Such an amendment will push the country towards fresh conflict and uncertainty at the expense of peace, stability and progress, they said, adding that a Constitution amendment should offer concrete solutions to national problems.
