Eastern region suffers burns as fire destroys property worth millions of rupees

Kathmandu, April 25

Property worth around four million rupees was destroyed in incidents of fire in three districts in the eastern region on Sunday, eastern regional police office based in Biratnagar said.

In Sunsari, a fire originating from the house of Nandu Kumar Urav of Madhuvan-3 quickly spread to the houses of Tetari Urav, Lela Urav, Mahen Urav, Fulchan Urav, Ram Kumar Urav and Buddhi Urav. The victims said the fire caused a loss of around 12 lakh rupees. Firefighters, security personnel and local people brought the fire under control later on, Sunsari district police office informed.

In Panchthar district, fire originating in a forest at Ranigaun VDC quickly spread to the house and shed of Purna Bahadur Khadka, causing a loss of around 17 lakh rupees. In another incident in the district, property worth around three lakh rupees was gutted when fire engulfed the house of Prem Bahadur Tamang at Sakharkhande VDC-5. Police personnel and local people have put out the fire.

In Saptari, short circuit sparked fire at the house of Jivachh Yadav in Pipraha VDC-8, destroying cash amounting to four lakh rupees and dowry worth around six lakh rupees. Yadav had collected the cash and bought the dowry for his daughter’s wedding.
