Blatant violation of Nepal’s sovereignty: SSB stormtroopers enter Kanchanpur, thrash locals

Kanchanpur, March 9

In a blatant violation of Nepal’s sovereignty, Indian border security force, SSB, has started entering into Nepali territory in Ananda Bazaar, Kanchanpur, and issuing threats to people to leave the area. Armed SSB personnel are entering every household in the area and start issuing such threats, objecting to the construction of a culvert close to the border.

In the presence of Nepal Police personnel, SSB held Nepali journalist Hemanta Neupane by his neck and made him delete photos of SIB activities that he had taken. Local people said SSB personnel, equipped with arms, entered Ananda Bazaar on Wednesday night and threatened them to leave the area.

SSB personnel, equipped with arms, entered Ananda Bazaar on Wednesday night and threatened the inhabitants to leave the area, according to local people.

Chandra Mani Gaire, secretary of the Culvert Construction Consumers’ Committee, said SSB personnel verbally abused him and threatened to beat him up if they ever saw him in Indian territories.

Enraged locals pointed that Nepali authorities had kept mum even when SSB personnel entered Nepali territory with arms and threatened them. On Wednesday night, Indian SSB even rained lathis on Nepali peoples in Ananda Bazaar.

Area Police Office sub-inspector Roshan Chand (from Nepal Police) visited the area later and said it is the duty of Armed Police Force to provide security in the area.

Ram Bahadur Khatri, APF inspector, said the problem is complex and a solution should be sought at the district level.
