Kathmandu, May 16
Supporters of the Federal Alliance (a group of ‘pro-identity parties, including the Madheshi Morcha) have clashed with riot police on Monday morning.
Three protesters were injured following the clash, which ensued after they tried to enter a restricted area outside Nepal’s administrative hub Singha Durbar. Those injured are: Sonam Dhital, Sonam Rai and Santosh, whose last name could not been ascertained.
Forum-Nepal’s General Secretary Ajay Kumar Yadav, however, claimed that more than a dozen protesters were injured in the clash. He accused police of using force against peaceful demonstrations.
Following a breakdown of talks between the Madheshi Morcha and the government, the Morcha joined hands with the alliance to organise Kathmandu-centric protests.
