Kathmandu, May 17
A Nepali Congress leader said on Tuesday that her party supports Federal Alliance’s Capital-centric movement.
Sita Devi Yadav, treasurer of the NC, described the agendas of Madhesh and indigenous nationalities as just. Yadav said her party will support every movement that Nepali people launch to secure their rights.
Yadav, speaking at a face-to-face that Reporters’ Club had organised, said: There should be two provinces in Madhesh.
“In a bid to prolong its life, the KP Oli government is adopting a strategy to fuel the movement instead of addressing Madhesh agendas,” the main opposition leader alleged.
Implementing the constitution will be impossible without address Madhesh’s demands, she said, adding: Instead of addressing problems, the government is recalling ambassador, showing indifference towards post-quake reconstruction work, least bothered about hardships facing fire victims and looking after cadres (of ruling parties).
Yadav said political parties should come together for the resolution of current problems.
At the programme, Minister for Peace Eknath Dhakal claimed the Madhesh movement is the movement of Madhesh’s political elites and not members of the general public. “If Madheshi people had supported this movement, it would have taken place in Madhesh, not in Kathmandu,” he said.
CPN-UML lawmaker Lal Babu Yadav said problems have arisen because political leadership drew (provincial) boundaries. Demarcation of provincial boundaries is not only a matter of identity and rights but also of capacity, he noted, adding that even United Democratic Madheshi Front is unclear on this.
