Kathmandu, June 8
Leaders of the main opposition Nepali Congress have been quite busy lambasting the KP Sharma Oli government these days, and Wednesday was no exception.
Wednesday, it was the turn of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and another leader Ram Chandra Poudel to target the government.
Deuba, speaking at a programme that Dipak Khadka, lawmaker from Sankhuwasabha district, had organised in Kathmandu to honour three Everester brothers from a family in Makalu VDC — Lhakpa Sherpa, Mingma Gelu Sherpa and Mingma Kipa Sherpa — said the government is bent on misappropriating the state coffers instead of bothering to implement the new constitution.
Eight months have passed since the Constituent Assembly promulgated the constiution, but Prime Minister Oli has not bothered to implement the charter, Deuba said. Instead of taking constitution implementation seriously, PM Oli is busy making fake promises about connecting households with gas pipelines and operating ships, Deuba continued.
He further accused PM Oli of using state treasury as if it were his party’s property. After failing to spend donor-provided funds, Prime Minister Oli is trying to misuse the money by mobilising NGOs that enjoy support of his party (CPN-UML), Deuba alleged. The NC chief said he will not let this happen, no matter what.
Deuba said his party will do whatever it takes to prevent the misuse of state treasury in the name of post-quake reconstruction.
Another NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel accused Prime Minister Oli of trying to put the constitution in jeopardy. “PM Oli has said he will conduct parliamentary elections without conducting village, municipal and provincial polls,” Poudel pointed, adding: Remarks like this are meant to jeopardise the constitution.
