Pokhara, June 9
Police on Thursday arrested 42 cadres of Biplav-led CPN (Maoist) party while they were enforcing the party-announced general strike in Pokhara and Lekhnath of Kaski district.
Sabriti Dura, Gandaki in-charge of the party, said the arrestees included Gokul Parajuli, party in-charge for Kaski-1 and Sujan BK, party in-charge for Kaski-4. Police made the arrests from Mahendrapul, Shivalaya Chok, Shisuwa and Talchok, according to Dura.
Meanwhile, Dura accused police of beating up party cadre Ratan Pariyar with lathi while he was trying to make the bandh successful, in Lekhnath.
In Pokhara, the strike has brought traffic movement to a halt since Thursday morning, though there were no enforcers on the road. Industries, factories and educational institutions have downed shutters. Children and youths have turned the roads into playgrounds.
Ambulances, vehicles belonging to human rights organisations, diplomatic missions and the media, tourist buses and vehicles on essential duty are plying without any hindrance.
