The Ram Nawami festival is being celebrated across the country today by worshipping Lord Shri Ramchandra at various shrines. Believed to have been born on Chaitra Shukla Nawami to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya in the Treta Yuga, Shri Ramchandra is revered as the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
According to Prof Dr Ramchandra Gautam, Chairperson of the Nepal Calendar Determination and Development Committee, the festival inspires ideals of a dignified, disciplined, and righteous ruler like Ram.
In Janakpur, Nepal, and Ayodhya, India, Ramlila performances and fairs are held to mark the occasion. Thousands of devotees visit the Ram Janaki Temple in Janakpur. The day is also marked by fasting, holy baths, Ramayana recitations, worship, and singing of bhajans.
