Three decades of 1974 AD: Band’s Rock Yatra 2 shakes Kathmandu

Nepali rock band 1974 AD made a powerful comeback with the second edition of their iconic Rock Yatra tour on Saturday evening at Hyatt Ground, Bouddha. 

The band, known for blending traditional Nepali sounds with rock music, performed a three-hour-long set featuring some of their biggest hits. Songs like Timilai Piratile Badhula, Nepali Ho, Mutu Bhari, Rato Ra Chandra Surya, and Chudaina Timro Maya Ley had the audience singing and dancing along, creating a vibrant and nostalgic atmosphere.

Amid the performance, the band also paid tribute to Nepali music icons such as Narayan Gopal, Gopal Yonjan, Tara Devi, Aruna Lama, and Bhakta Raj Acharya, expressing their gratitude for the legends’ contributions to the upliftment of Nepali music. Simiarly, the band also honoured Mapan Bhusal, lyricist and composer of Nepali Ho

According to the organiser, 10,000 fans attended the event, marking it as one of the biggest live music gatherings in recent times. The concert was part of Rock Yatra 2, a sequel to the band’s groundbreaking concert held 23 years ago at Dashrath Stadium. 

This tour is being promoted as the final chapter of the Rock Yatra journey.

In addition to their well-known anthems, the band also performed popular tracks such as Parelima, Chyangba and The Bloody Revolution, Gurasai Fulyo, and Samjhi Baschu.  The show also celebrated 30 years of their formation.

The current lineup of 1974 AD features Adrian Pradhan (vocals, drums), Phiroj Syangden (vocals, guitar), Nirakar Yakthumba (bass), Manoj Kumar KC (guitar), Sanjay Shrestha (percussion, drums) and Manose Singh (Flautist).
