
Kathmandu, April 7
Senior journalist Bhairav Risal has passed away at the age of 97.
He died at 7:45 PM on Saturday evening at Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor, where he was undergoing treatment, his younger brother Puru Risal confirmed.
Risal had pledged to donate his body for medical education. According to his daughter Sushma Risal, arrangements are being made to transport his body to the Patan Academy of Health Sciences.
A pioneering figure in Nepali journalism since the Panchayat era, Risal served for many years at the national news agency, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), retiring as a chief correspondent. He was later involved in environmental journalism and played a vital role in the establishment of Radio Sagarmatha, where he hosted the long-running program Radio Kurakani and Uhiley Bajekaa Palamaa.
Risal was also active in the Jayatu Sanskritam movement and is remembered for his significant contributions to journalism and public discourse.
