Kathmandu, June 12
Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa said on Sunday that he had not visited India to get prescriptions for Nepal’s domestic problems.
He said this while talking to journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport, upon his return from India, where he found time to meet the likes of India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and former Indian PM Manmohan Singh, apart from attending the convocation of South Asian University in New Delhi.
Thapa said: I did not visit India to seek any prescription. We should stop thinking that Nepal’s internal problems can be solved on the basis of prescriptions brought from elsewhere. With India’s External Affairs Minister, I discussed latest political developments.
During the meetings in India, Thapa said he found the Indian side ‘hurt’ by the cancellation of President Bidhya Bhandari’s India visit.
Thapa said: Nepal’s internal politics is complex and such a situation calls for presence of President within the country. This is what I told the Indian side.
He said: We have reached an understanding to host Nepal and India’s presidents on appropriate time.
Thapa said he also discussed with Swaraj the possibility of holding Nepal and India’s eminent persons’ groups’ meeting in mid-August.
