In one of the most gruesome killings of Nepalis abroad, 14 men were killed in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul in a suicide blast in the early hours of Monday. The Nepali security guards were working for the UK-based Sabre Security, a contractor of the Canadian Embassy in Kabul.

Onlinekhabar contacted one of the Kabul-based security guards working for the same company to learn about their job. Here are five facts you ought to know about Nepalis working for Sabre:

1.

147 Nepalis work there

According to the source, around 147 Nepali security guards, most of whom are retired army men are currently on the company’s pay roll. They work in three shifts. They work in teams of 40.

2.

Four km ride every day

The security guards do not live on the embassy compound, they live around four km away from their workplace. The bus ride usually takes 10-15 minutes. But when there’s traffic, it takes up to 30 minutes.

3.

No escorting, no weapons on board

The bus does not get security escorting, and passengers are not allowed to carry arms.

4.

First shift begins at 6 am

The first shift begins at 6 am, and the security guards leave their quarters at around 5.40 am. This is the same time the attack happened on Monday.

According to the source, there is a petrol station on the way to the embassy, and it was there that the suicide attacker was hiding before carrying out the attack.
