Kathmandu, July 27
CPN-UML Secretary Pradip Gyawali said on Wednesday his party will not join government to be formed under CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Prachanda, no matter what. He said the UML will play the role of a strong opposition.
Gyawali, speaking at a face-to-face that Reporters’ Club Nepal had organised, said the UML is following latest political developments closely.
He said: Maoist Centre Chair Prachanda is supposed to become Nepal’s Prime Minister. But reactions in the Indian media regarding this development — about Prachanda’s prospects of becoming Nepal’s prime minister — have done Nepal a disservice.
Gyawali said he was speaking on this issue out of compulsion. He said: The Maoist party should have commented on this issue, but it has kept quite so far. This is unfortunate.
He suspected that there may have been conspiracies to force Prachanda to push forward agendas that will harm Nepal in the long run.
Gyawali lauded China’s remarks on the latest political developments in Nepal.
While a neighbour is saying change in government will not affect bilateral relations, another neighbour is celebrating the change by observing dipawali (lighting lamps to celebrate an occasion).
He suspected that with formation of a new government, efforts may begin to make Nepal more dependent on India.
Gyawali said the UML will work responsibly for implementation of the Constitution, timely conduct of elections, Charter amendment to appease Madhesh-centric parties and balanced international relations.
It will also see whether or not the new government expedites development projects that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli prioritised, the UML leader said.
