Kathmandu, October 25
The largest party in the Parliament, Nepali Congress, has decided to reveal where it stands vis-a-vis the impeachment motion against CIAA Chief Commissioner Lokman Singh Karki only during the voting on the motion in the Parliament.
The party’s Central Working Committee meeting held at its headquarters in Sanepa on Tuesday chose not to come up with a concrete stance on the motion, despite pressure from Gagan Thapa and Pradip Poudel to stand for Lokman’s impeachment. Not only a majority of leaders did not stand in favour of impeaching Lokman, some of them described the motion as a CPN-UML plot.
Wrapping up Tuesday’s meeting, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba lambasted CIAA Chief Karki, but he did not spare the main opposition UML either. He vented ire at the UML for bringing forth a motion against Karki without consulting his party.
Deuba called for a broader discussion on the motion and stressed the need to prove charges against Karki. Some leaders speaking at the meeting demanded discussions on the motion in the party’s Parliamentary Party meeting. But the party did not take a final call on the matter at the meeting.
