Kathmandu, November 8

The Supreme Court has directed Lokman Singh Karki, suspended chief commissioner of the CIAA, to appear before the court within seven days.

The court issued a ruling to this effect in response to a writ petition that accuses then CIAA Chief Karki of refusing to accept the court’s summons through intimidation and threats.

A single bench of justice Anandamohan Bhattarai issued this ruling after a hearing, telling Karki to furnish reasons why he did not turn up at the court at an earlier date despite the summons.

The ruling states: Why should not the defendant (Karki) face action as per Article 111 of the Constitution? If the defendant feels such action is unjustifiable, he should present the bases to prove his point while furnishing the written explanation.

The court cautioned that it is the duty of all citizens to cooperate in the works of the Supreme Court. The ruling states that the judiciary cannot discharge its duties and responsibilities without fear and independently otherwise.
