Supreme Court again stays elevation of DIG Chand as Nepal Police inspector general

Kathmandu, February 13

A day after issuing an interim stay order against elevation of Nepal Police DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand as IG, the Supreme Court has issued yet another order to the government along the same line. It has directed the government not to appoint Chand as IG of the police force.

During a hearing on the petition from DIG Nawa Raj Silwal in which he has sought his elevation as IG, a bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki issued another interim stay order telling the government not to appoint Chand as IG.

The bench told the government to produce files related to the decision on appointment of Chand as Nepal Police chief within February 19. Advocates Shambhu Thapa, Tulasi Bhatta, Tika Ram Bhattarai and Govinda Bandi had pleaded on behalf the petitioner.
