Dacoit killed, police officer injured in clash at Rautahat village

Police clashed with a gang of armed dacoits in Devahi, Rautahat district, on Monday morning. The clash left a dacoit dead and a police officer injured.

Acting on information that dacoits had entered the village, personnel from the Hetaunda-based Narayani zonal police office and Rautahat district police office rushed to Devahi-8.

On seeing police personnel, the dacoits opened fire and a clash ensued. The clash left a dacoit dead and a police officer, Surendra Chaudhary injured, Rautahat DPO informed. Police are yet to ascertain the identity of the dacoit, who appears to be in his 30’s.

Police have found three firearms and ammunition. The recovered items include one INSAS rifle and 15 bullets, one pistol made in Italy and its magazine and a countrymade pistol. In Nepal, only the national army uses INSAS rifles, whereas in India SSB uses them.
