Kathmandu, December 29
United Democratic Madheshi Front said on Thursday conflict will escalate in the country if the government announces date for elections without amending the Constitution. At its meeting, UDMF reiterated its stance: Constitution amendment before election announcement.
The UDMF meeting comes at a time when the government is preparing to announce the date for elections.
‘Conflict will escalate if the government announces polls without amending the Constitution. We are ready for elections if parties are ready for Charter amendment’
After the meeting at Tarai Madheshi Democratic Party office in Bijuli Bazaar, party President Brishesh Chandra Lal told the media: Conflict will escalate if the government announces polls without amending the Constitution. We are ready for elections if parties are willing to amend the Constitution.
UDMF also voiced its objection at the report of the Local Level Restructuring Commission, accusing it of going beyond its terms of reference. He pointed that the report does not say a thing about special region and autonomous region. “The report prepared by going against ToR will be of no use.”
Lal said the meeting will continue on Friday as well.
