Supreme Court ruling has averted a massive national disaster, says CPN-UML leader Madhav Nepal

Political leaders continued to offer varying interpretations of the Supreme Court ruling on the Constitution Amendment Bill on Wednesday as well.

Joining in the burgeoning league of interpreters on Wednesday, CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said the court ruling has saved the country from a huge disaster. It has averted national disintegration, he said.

The UML leader argued: The ruling has verified the UML’s claim that the amendment bid is unconstitutional.

Speaking at a programme that Press Chautari Nepal had organised, the leader maintained that the Prachanda government’s proposal seeking redrawing of Province 5 is, in fact, a plot aimed at disintegrating the whole country by pushing it into a vortex of conflicts. He said: The government tried to move ahead against popular will, so we stood in protest.

He advised the administration to either withdraw the Bill or focus on elections by putting the Bill on hold.

CPN-UML is ready to provide help. The party is also ready to discuss possibility of forming a national unity government
