All’s not well with the online server at the Bagmati Zonal Transport Management Office in Ekantakuna, Lalitpur. Glitches afflicting the server have affected thousands of service-seekers.
All works related to driving licences, including licence issuance, licence renewal and licence trials, came to a halt early on Monday, creating a tense situation at the office complex.
On Friday as well, the server suffered problems, only to be partially restored on Sunday.

The slogan-shouting customers alleged that all this was an attempt (on the part of office employees) to resort to irregularities.
Tej Narayan Yadav, the office chief, said they had to return around 3,500 service-seekers, who had reached the office, empty-handed.

On Sunday also, trials (for driving licences) got disrupted as the server went down. He said: We have called a team from the department (Department of Transport Management) to fix the glitches. Yadav maintained: We are not behind this problem. It is a technical problem and we are not a part of it.
The department has just two computer engineers. It has not bothered to hire more engineers.
The department has already launched smart licence and embossed number plates apart from introducing an online firm registration system. But it does not have enough skilled human resources to run these systems smoothly.
