Non-Resident Nepalis have provided Australian $61,000 (Rs 50,00,000) for reconstruction of the quake-ravaged settlement in Laprak of Gorkha district.
They provided the assistance at a national conference of Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association (Australia).
NRNA is building a model village for quake victims of Laprak, the epicentre of the 2015 Gorkha quake. About four months ago, Prime Minister Prachanda had laid the foundation stone for the settlement.
Working committee members of the NRNA (Australia) provided a cheque bearing the amount to NRNA president Shesh Ghale.
Ghale said this is the largest amount donated so far for reconstruction of the quake-ravaged Laprak village. He thanked the donors.
He said: Four hundred volunteers have mobilised daily for construction of the model village in Lapark. Despite adverse weather conditions, construction is moving ahead smoothly.
The Nepali Army has also mobilised its team for the project, he said, thanking the army for the same.
Programme also saw screening of a documentary on Laprak village reconstruction.
