Bhaktapur, February 17
CPN-UML Secretary and chief of the party’s publicity department, Yogesh Bhattarai, said on Friday there’s no reason why this government should stay on in power if it cannot conduct elections.
Unite for polls
He was speaking at a face-to-face that Rafat Sanchar Club had organised in Bhaktapur. He stressed the need for major political parties involved in Constitution-making to stand together.
Speaking at the programme, he said: Parties that introduced the Constitution should move ahead by forging an understanding. Otherwise, this government has no moral ground to remain in power, not even for a minute.
Amendment proposal dead and gone
He went on to claim that the government-sponsored Constitution amendment proposal is already dead. The UML has no objection against the issue of Constitution amendment, he said, adding, however, that amendment is not the need of the time for the country.
All parties should go for elections, Bhattarai said, adding that all should work together to create a conducive environment for elections.
Timely conduct of three-tier elections is a must for political stability, the UML youth leader said, accusing the government of dillydallying when it comes to holding elections.
