Govt prepares constituency law for parliamentary elections

Kathmandu, March 19

One rural municipality cannot be divided among several election constituencies, a draft of the proposed Constituency Delimitation Act says.

The draft, prepared by the Office of the Council of Ministers, says units of a municipality may be divided into several election constituencies.

This comes as the government prepares to present draft pieces of legislation to lay the foundation for the next round of elections at the central and provincial levels. The bill will be presented before Parliament on Sunday.

According to the bill, the numer of constituencies in the country will be brought down to 165 from the existing 240. Simlarly, one district shall have at least one constituency.
