Kathmandu, November 20

In the wake of various incidents of blasts and attacks targeting candidates for upcoming provincial and federal parliamentary elections, the CPN-UML has urged the government and the Election Commission to ensure their safety.

The UML says an explosive was planted targeting the party’s Standing Committee member and former speaker Subas Chandra Nembang in Jorpokhari of Panchthar district yesterday. Likewise, another similar incident was reported from Dhading district yesterday and another one in Sankhuwasabha today, according to the party.

The party has accused the government of not paying attention to such incidents, raising questions if the government wants to stop candidates of the leftist alliance from conducting pre-poll campaigns.

Meanwhile, the party says its Central Election Mobilisation Committee will lead a delegation to the Election Commission today to urge the constitutional body for making the government responsible to such acts.

The party will also urge the Commission to ensure the implementation of code of conduct and an end to its violation, spokesperson of the Mobilisation Committee Bishnu Rimal informs.
