The CPN-UML has decided to make the party’s central Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung its parliamentary party leader for Province 4. It means Gurung will be the Chief Minister for the Province with the CPN-Maoist Centre support.
Earlier, he to contest a poll against Kiran Gurung for the position. But, a meeting between them mediated by the party’s General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel concluded to pick Prithvi Subba for the top provincial post.

UML to elect Province 4 leader today

The CPN-UML is scheduled to hold a poll to elect the party’s parliamentary party leader in Province 4 in Pokhara on Sunday.
The party’s central Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung and Standing Committee member Kiran Gurung will contest for the leadership. The winner will later be elected the Chief Minister with the CPN-Maoist Centre.
Earlier, some leaders had taken initiatives to forge an understanding between two leaders, but failed. They had even discussed taking the position turn by turn.
The poll has been watched interestingly as both the leaders represent the Gurung ethnic community and belong to the same faction inside the party.
In the 60-member Provincial Assembly, there are 27 members from the UML.
