Kathmandu, July 25
If a plan developed by the Morang District Coordination Committee is implemented well, 35 households in Ward 14 of Biratnagar Metropolitan City in the district are likely to receive biogas through pipes connected directly to their kitchen from a plant very soon.
Currently, personnel are installing pipelines connecting the plant to individual houses so as to launch the project next week.
Manure from cows of Shree Krishna Gaushala, a farm house, nearby is being used to produce energy. Then DCC, the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre and the farm have jointly invested Rs 8.4 million for the project. The construction work had begun one and half years ago.
The DCC’s Energy and Environment Officer Gyanendra Siingh says the plant has already been installed at the farm.
If the piloting with 35 households turns successful, it will be extended to 100 more houses soon, according to him.
There are 205 cows in the farm and they excrete 2,000 kg manure every day.
