At lest five persons died and 23 persons sustained injuries when a passenger bus plunged into Trishuli River in Tumlingtar, Ichhakamana Rural Municipality of Chitwan district, on Friday afternoon.
The victims–three men and two women–are yet to be identified.
Among the injured, one child is critical.
Bus plunges into Trishuli with 32 passengers; 18 rescued
Chitwan, July 27
A passenger bus heading to Pokhara from Kathmandu plunged into the Trishuli River in Tumlingtar, Ichhakamana Rural Municipality of Chitwan district, on Friday afternoon.
There were 32 passengers on the bus (Na 6 Kha 2506) and 18 of them have been rescued so far, according to police. The rescue operation for other passengers is underway.
Those rescued have been taken to nearby health facilities for needful medical care.
The bus had fallen around 100 metres down the Prithvi Highway into the mighty river, according to Chief of the District Police Office, Sushil Singh Rathor.
Witnesses told police that the bus fell off the road after it collided with a truck (Na 5 Kha 7409).
