State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of Parliament has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate into the killing of Kumar Paudel, a leader of the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Maoist party in Sarlahi district of Province 2 last week, and submit a report to the panel within next one week.
A meeting of the committee held on Monday morning issued the directive.
Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and Nepal Police chief Sarbendra Khanal were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, Thapa had insisted that Paudel died as police opened fire in self defence while retaliating against the Maoist cadres who opened fires first.
But, some lawmakers including ruling Nepal Communist Party’s Janardan Sharma were not convinced. Sharma claimed Paudel’s arm was broken before he died.
Responding to the directive, Thapa said he would look into the issue.
