Home Minister blames ‘neighbours’ encroaching policy’ for border disputes

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa

Kathmandu, August 12

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has blamed neighbouring countries for Nepal’s recurring border disputes with them. He has accused the neighbours of adopting an ‘encroaching policy’.

Thapa, however, has not mentioned which of the neighbours–India or China–is involved in such activities, but, apparently, he has targeted India in his statement.

Speaking in a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee in Parliament on Wednesday, the minister said the neighbours sometimes removed border pillars whereas they also changed locations of these marks other times.

Likewise, some rivers also function as borderline between Nepal and India, and problems occur when the path of the river is changed, according to him.

Saying it was the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to solve border disputes diplomatically, Thapa said his ministry of committed to safeguarding the borders.
