Kathmandu, August 19
More than one week after the Indian government removed the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir, the government of Nepal has finally made its official response on the issue.
Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali says Nepal is looking at the issue closely.
Speaking with journalists at his ministry of Monday, Gyawali said the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi was working to ensure that Nepalis in the tense region were safe.
Gyawali said that Nepal as the current chair of SAARC favoured regional peace and stability. He urged India and Pakistan to maintain clam in order to retain peace in the region.
“We believe India also takes it seriously.”
Earlier, Nepali social media users had criticised the government for failing to speak anything about the issue.
