Nepal Communist Party lawmaker Pampha Bhusal has proposed closing the open border between Nepal and India citing crimes in the area. Speaking at a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee in Parliament today, lawmaker Bhusal said that that proper monitoring needed to be done at border points as Nepal and India do not have a visa provision.
“We need to be careful. Anyone can come and go from the border points. We need to close the border and monitor people coming and going. As we cannot have a visa provision now, I feel that much should be done,” she said addressing the committee on Wednesday.
She also accused the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) of India of shifting the border poles and added that Nepal Army should be deployed in all border areas. “Nepal Army should be deployed in the borders,” she demanded.
However, Nepali Congress lawmaker Devendra Raj Kandel said that closing the border just because of a few incidents was unnecessary.
