The proposed unification between the Samajwadi Party Nepal and the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal is unlikely anytime soon, according to the leaders of both the parties.
Though many leaders from both the parties have been stating that the unification is the need of the hour whenever they address the public, talks have not been held in this regard of late.
Anil Kumar Jha, a member of the RJPN presidium, says, “There have been no talks at the presidium level about the unification.” He says recent National Assembly elections and the by-elections held in November last year kept the parties busy so they could not talk.
Likewise, Samajwadi’s vice-chairperson Renu Kumari Yadav says, “There has not been any progress since our party left the federal government [in December 2019]. However, efforts are underway.”
Earlier, the RJPN had demanded that the Samajwadi Party quit the government for the unification. However, after the party left the government, the RJPN itself is closer to the ruling Nepal Communist Party and it has been blocking the unification.
