Kathmandu, October 12
An Indian man arrested on the charge of relabelling food items past expiry dates has accepted the charge, adding he was involved in this form of black marketing for the past two years.
Earlier this month, Ronak Bothara was arrested along with six Nepali nationals after finding they were involved in selling date-expired goods in the Kalanki area of Kathmandu.
The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection Management says Bothara told the department officials that he was appointed as a manager of Aayan Distributor in Kathmandu but would do all works related to the distribution of goods in the market.
The company’s owner Pushpa Devi Agrawal, on the other hand, told the officials that the company was registered under her name but said she was unaware that people associated with her company were involved in illegal activities.
Some others arrested along with Agrawal and Bothara also accepted their involvement in the relabelling of food items past expiry dates, informs the department.
Meanwhile, the department decided to release Agrawal on bail of Rs 10 million and send Bothara to custody until a final decision is made.
