Kathmandu, November 17
Some Newars across Nepal are celebrating the annual Bhaitika (Kija Puja) festival on Tuesday although most people celebrated it on Monday.
The festival is observed on the second day of the waxing moon in the month of Kartik as per the lunar calendar. This year, the second day (Dwitiya tithi) began late on Monday morning and remains until Tuesday evening, hence people chose to observe the festival on different days.
Meanwhile, the government has already announced a public holiday for Tuesday also.
Likewise, the Balgopalenshwar temple in Ranipokhari of Kathmandu where people without their own brothers and sisters gather to receive Bhaitika is open today also.
