Kathmandu, January 29
Fuel station operators in Bagmati have waned of imposing a strike in the Bagmati province including the Kathmandu valley, indefinitely from Sunday.
The Bagmati Petroleum Dealers Association decided to launch the strike claiming the fuel sellers are being deprived of additional 30 litres of fuel that they would get for every purchase of 12,000 litres. The association’s president Achyut Khadka says he has already circulated the decision across the province on Thursday.
Khadka says the Nepal Oil Corporation is planning to snatch away a right that they had got after a long struggle three years ago.
He maintains the traders are not willing to keep the consumers in trouble.
Meanwhile, the government-run fuel distribution monopoly, Nepal Oil Corporation, says it will take action against the sellers if they launch the strike.
Further, the corporation’s Executive Director Surendra Kumar Paudel informs that the corporation has not yet decided to discontinue the system, but it is being studied under a collaboration with the Kathmandu University.
He says the corporation is not informed of the plan of strike yet.
Over 150 petrol pumps are operational in the province, selling around 600,000 litres of fuel every year.
