Kathmandu, February 18

The government has objected to a decision made by doctors to hike their consultation fees.

A day after the Nepal Medical Association, the umbrella organisation of Nepali doctors, and the Association of Private Health Institution of Nepal, an organisation of private health institutions, decided to increase the charges, Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi told journalists during a press meet, “They do not have any right to determine the fees. The ministry has not consented to the new charges.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Population issued a statement to object to the decision.

The ministry says it is yet to take a final decision about the issue although a consultation fee recommendation committee commissioned by the ministry had made a recommended.

It has been claimed that the doctors’ and the hospitals’ organisations did not consult the government while making the decision.
