Kathmandu, March 6
After decades of the beginning of the project, the ambitious Melamchi Water Supply Project that aims at quenching the thirst of locals of the Kathmandu valley with the water from the Melamchi river of Sindhupalchok is all set to meet its objective.
On Saturday, the project has successfully brought the water through a tunnel to Kathmandu’s Sundarijal where a treatment plant has been constructed to purify the water.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli switched on the flushing tunnel hydro-mechanical gate amid a function there on Saturday evening. On the occasion, the prime minister said a long-awaited dream of Kathmanduites was coming true soon and it should be celebrated.
Amid the deepening political rift in the country, Oli also claimed his government was active in expedite development projects and the Melamchi project’s completion was the recent example. “It has proved that the government is doing something big every day.”
After several extensions, the project has now set a deadline of April 15, 2021, to supply the water to households.
