Kathmandu, March 9
Singer and CPN-UML leader Komal Oli has filed a slander case against the party’s leader Raghuji Panta, demanding a four-year jail sentence and a fine of Rs 40,000.
Speaking at a party function some days ago, Panta had claimed Oli got a seat in the National Assembly just because she exposed her body to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli whereas many other women leaders in the party have been ignored irrespective of their contribution.
The video of Panta saying so had gone viral on social media and many had criticised him stating it was a disrespectful and misogynistic remark. Panta had also apologised.
But, Oli filed a case at the Kathmandu District Court today saying she would not forgive him. Oli claims the statement amounted to gender-based violence.
“The slanderous statement issued by the person with the status of bearing the major responsibility of protecting and promoting women’s rights has disrespected me,” said Oli in the complaint.
