Kathmandu, May 20

The main opposition party Nepali Congress has filed a complaint against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha accusing them of violating the code of conduct issued for the National Assembly election being held on Thursday.

On the eve of the poll, Oli and Shrestha, in the capacity of the CPN-UML chairman and the chairman of the party’s election mobilisation committee respectively, had issued separate statements on Wednesday calling the voters to vote for the party’s candidate Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa. However, the Election Commission had already imposed the silence period before that, barring anyone from campaigning for any candidate.

Therefore, the opposition party filed the complaint at the commission today as per a decision made by the party on Wednesday, informs the NC parliamentary party officer Bijayendra Bir Aale.

Meanwhile, voting is about to complete shortly at the poll booth in Hetaunda for one vacant position in the assembly representing the Bagmati province.
