Kathmandu, July 11
The Election Commission has decided that the CPN-Maoist Centre’s legitimacy has not ended now as claimed by some of its previous leaders who defected to the CPN-UML recently.
A meeting of the commission officials held on Sunday decided to reject an application submitted by those leaders demanding the commission scrap the party’s registration.
In the application, they had claimed that the party has already termed illegitimate as it has not held its general convention to elect the leadership for the past nine years.
But, the commission argued the party was registered with the commission just on August 16, 2016, whereas its previous status was re-established as a continuity of the Nepal Communist Party dissolved by a Supreme Court order on March 7, 2021.
