President Bidya Devi Bhandari, the supreme commander-in-chief of the Nepal Army, has conferred the insignia of the army staff on the newly appointed Prabhu Ram Sharma.
Sharma was appointed the army chief recently following the retirement of incumbent Purna Chandra Thapa. As per customary provisions, Sharma has been working as the acting chief of the army with Thapa going on home leave.
Amid a special function organised at the President’s Office, Shital Niwas, on Thursday, Sharma received the insignia. The president also administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sharma today.
He is expected to assume office today itself.
