Kathmandu, October 22
The National Reconstruction Authority says a lack of funds has severely affected the reconstruction of schools that were destroyed by the 2015 earthquake.
The Central Project Implementation Unit (Education) under the authority says the unit is short of Rs 1.33 billion required for the reconstruction of all school buildings destroyed by the earthquake.
The unit recently submitted a report in this regard to Education Minister Devendra Paudel. The report states several schools in 31 districts of the country will be hit hard due to the crisis.
Many of the schools have already started the reconstruction process, but they have also faced the risk of delay in completion.
The unit’s director Dr Yuba Raj Paudel says currently school management committees are reconstructing 496 schools in the districts. Likewise, 352 schools are being reconstructed by contractors, and 88 by non-government organisations.
