Biratnagar, June 10
One man recently arrested on the charge of attempted murder has been found dead in police custody in Biratnagar of the Morang district recently.
Whereas police claim he died due to health reasons, the kin have accused the law enforcers of torturing him to death.
Bhakta Bahadur Thakuri (48), a resident of Kerabari rural municipality-2 of the Morang district, had fallen unconscious when he was taken to the District Government Attorney’s Office yesterday. Immediately, he was rushed to the Koshi Hospital, where doctors have declared him dead during treatment, according to DSP Deepak Shrestha, the District Police Office spokesperson.
Thakur was accused of trying to murder his own wife, Shakuntala Thakuri.
Meanwhile, following the suspect’s death, his relatives have accused law enforcers of torturing him to death.
“He was taken away from home in a healthy condition. It means he died because of the police beating,” Kisan Shahi, his brother-in-law, says, “The incident should be investigated and the culprit should be punished.”
