Kathmandu, July 15
Pushpa Bhusal of the ruling Nepali Congress party has been elected the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
The House elected Pushpa Bhusal to the position on Friday afternoon. Bhusal got 148 votes to defeat her sole competitor, Bidya Bhattarai of the CPN-UML.
There were 242 lawmakers present. While one lawmaker abstained from voting, 93 lawmakers voted against her.
The position was vacant since January 2020 when the then deputy speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe resigned from the position owing to party pressure. The parties did not pay attention to the issue for these two and a half years.
But, now, major parties had agreed to hold an election to fill the position so that the Constitutional Council will also get the full shape.
