With the rise in foldable and flip smartphones, new companies are getting into this market. Tecno Mobile also has recently stepped into the foldable field after the launch of its first-ever foldable smartphone, the Tecno Phantom V Fold.
Tecno has overtaken Samsung to lead in the African smartphone market in 2021. Samsung sold the most foldable in the year 2022 followed by Huawei, OPPO, VIVO and others, but Tecno seems to have closely followed them.
The Phantom lineup is the flagship lineup from Tecno, so the Tecno Phantom V Fold is the latest and the first foldable to be seen in that lineup. As the phone is soon to be coming into Nepal, we will discuss here the specifications, features and expected price of the smartphone here in Nepal.

Design and display
Tecno Phantom V Fold is quite big than the other foldable phones available in the market. For example, Samsung Z Fold is 7.6 inches when unfolded whereas Tecno Phantom V Fold is 7.85 inches, which gives a proper tablet-like feeling. The display on the phone’s main screen is an LTPO AMOLED 120Hz display with 388PPI. The resolution on the main display is 2000 X 2296 and has 1100 nits of peak brightness. The sub-screen also has an LTPO AMOLED 120Hz display with 431PPI. The resolution on the sub-screen is 1080 X 2550 and also has 1100 peak brightness.
V Fold’s design is quite unique with the main triple camera setup looking a bit futuristic. The back of the phone gives a textured look and looks very good on the phone too. The phone folds seamlessly and has almost no crease in the centre. The company states that the phone can be folded 200,000 times without any problem.
The phone though does not hold from the crease like other foldable smartphones do which might make it lack some features such as watching movies and using it like a laptop with the keyboard at the bottom and screen on the front, which is available on other smartphones.
Performance and storage
Tecno Phantom V Fold has a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ which is a 4nm-based mobile silicon. The graphics on the phone is taken care of with Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. The performance on the phone is very good as the 9000+ is a direct competitor to most of the flagship phone chipsets: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
The RAM on the phone is an LPDDR5X 12GB RAM. The storage is available in two options: 256GB and 512GB. The OS on the phone is HiOS 13 Fold, specially made by Tecno for the foldable smartphone which is based on Android 13.
Camera
Tecno Phantom V Fold has cameras everywhere. The phone has a total of five cameras which includes a triple camera setup on the back, a selfie camera on the main screen and another selfie camera on the sub-screen. The triple camera on the back includes a 50MP main camera, 50MP telephoto camera and a 13MP ultra-wide camera. The back camera can record 4K video at 60 and 30 fps.
The selfie camera is available on both the main and the sub-screen. The main screen has a 32MP selfie camera whereas the sub-screen has a 16MP selfie camera. The back of the camera can also be used to click selfies and the sub-screen can be used as a reference screen helping you click very clear photos.
Battery and others
Tecno Phantom V Fold has a 5000mAh battery and is paired with a 45W charger, helping the phone to stay alive. The battery can be charged from 0 to 40% within 15 minutes and 100% in 55 minutes using the 45W charger. The sensors on the phone include a side-mounted finger sensor, accelerometer, gyro sensor, proximity sensor and a compass.
The phone is available in two colours: black and white.
The price of Tecno Phantom V Fold (12/256GB) is expected around Rs 166,000 whereas that of 12/512GB is expected around Rs 178,000 in Nepal.
