Kathmandu, March 24
Samata Foundation, an organisation working for Dalit rights, has landed in controversy as a group of members accused the organisation of appointing the new chairperson illegitimately.
Some board members of the foundation have objected to the decision to accept the resignation of the existing executive chairperson Pradip Pariyar and appoint Madan Pariyar as the new chairperson, citing it as illegal and invalid.
Sumitra Manandhar Gurung, a founder and board member, and Sarita Pariyar, another board member, have claimed that the general meeting conducted on March 15 to form the new board was not conducted in accordance with legal procedures.
They have further alleged that an individual who is not a board member called for the meeting and interfered without proper authorisation.
“Recently, a member who is no longer legally in the position of a board member has been directing the executive chairperson, Pradip Pariyar, regarding whether to hold executive committee meetings, presenting and behaving himself as the chairperson of the board of directors,” says Sarita Pariyar. “Such malpractice in an organisation having enormous social responsibility has compelled us to interrogate and raise objections.”
Onlinekhabar called and texted the new Samata Foundation chairperson Madan Pariyar for his comments, but he did not respond.
