Kathmandu, October 15
An agreement has been reached between the protesting local-level employees and the government. The local-level employees had been protesting for the past 14 days.
The government and the protesting local-level government employees signed a 19-point agreement in Kathmandu on Saturday where various demands of the employees were met.
According to the agreement, the Chief Administrative Officer will serve as a civil servant for five years after the law comes into effect. During the first five years, they will be under the jurisdiction of the federal government, after which they will come under the confines of local governments.
Bijay Devkota, a local-level government employee, stated that the agreement included provisions for the promotion of provincial civil servants instead of local employees, a five-year promotion plan to be established by the state, trade union rights, and a transfer system.
With the agreement, the 14-day protest has ended. The employees will return to work from Monday.
