Kathmandu, December 3
Nepal Airlines Corporation‘s monopoly on ground handling services at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu is over.
Per Rule 5(2) of the Service Charge Regulation, 2022, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has opted to offer ground management services through a competitive selection process for an eligible organisation.
Furthermore, if the Nepal Airlines Corporation is not selected through the competition, this critical service, deemed as the lifeline of the corporation’s income, will be discontinued. Historically, Nepal Airlines had been availing itself of this service without undergoing any competitive selection process.
Previously, the CAAN had stated that one of the contributing factors to Nepal’s recurrent inclusion in the European Union’s blacklist was attributed to inadequate management within the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).
