Kathmandu, January 12
Resham Chaudhary has been elected unopposed as the president of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
In the general convention held in Tikapur, Chaudhary was the only candidate for the position of president.
The election committee said that since only Chaudhary’s nomination was submitted, he was elected unopposed.
Chaudhary started a party while he was in prison serving a life sentence for his role in the 2015 Tikapur incident. The party was formed under the leadership of his wife Ranjita Shrestha.
The general convention also elected Damodar Pandit as senior vice president and Tikalakshmi Chaudhary as the party’s treasurer.
Chaudhary was given a presidential pardon on the occasion of Republic Day.
